Leading the Way for Voters in Lackawanna CountyWelcome... Exercise your Freedoms and Rights! League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County response to Scranton Council debate accusationsRumors and innuendos have been running rampant about the League of Women Voters of Lackawanna County. We would like to set the record straight. Candidate events for the 2009 Primary Election season were decided at the April 4th board meeting. Minutes of this meeting can be found on our Web site: www.lwvlackawanna.org. Every election season a call for questions is requested from our membership via email, and the public via our web site. Anyone can submit a question for consideration; however, only members of the board craft the questions appropriate for debates and/or interviews. For the Scranton City Council Debate, no candidate was provided with any of the questions. The debate questions were created by and seen by only two board members, Bonnie Oldham and Dan Schreffler. Incidentally, neither of whom lives in the city of Scranton. No one else saw those questions prior to the event. The integrity of the League has been questioned, and we vehemently object. The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
